The Concert Business: Then and Now

Julie Lokin
President, New Audiences Productions

Abstract

In this 2008 article, concert producer Julie Lokin, president of New Audiences Productions, discusses how the concert business has changed since he started his company in 1971. Smaller independent companies have been swallowed up by larger companies. The internet has dominated the way shows are advertised and tickets distributed. Terrestrial radio, once the main channel for introducing new artists and their live shows, is no longer viable in a world of blogs, websites and downloads.
