TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The academic-year workload for full-time faculty is 24 workload hours and faculty must hold a minimum of five office hours per week on no fewer than three different days

Teaching expectations include:

Live Audio I (multiple sections)

Live Audio 2 (possible multiple sections)

Commercial Band

History of Recording Industry

Studio Recording

Private Instrumental Lessons, and/or Songwriting

Additional duties could include teaching of general education music courses or other courses related to the candidate's area of expertise and needs of the department and conducting classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web-enhanced or web-based formats.

Effectively teach students both in assigned courses and outside-the-classroom settings (e.g., student research, service learning, etc.), advise and mentor students, and carry out other assigned professional responsibilities in support of student learning and success.

Advising:

Hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week on no fewer than 3 days per week.

Serve as advisor for approximately 25 Music Industry majors.

Additional responsibilities include ongoing professional/scholarly activity and service to the department and university. Evidence of ability to teach diverse student populations. Additional teaching responsibilities may also include areas of expertise of the candidate or as needed by the department.

Expectations include development and teaching of courses via distance education (online). The assignment may include evening and/or weekend classes and classes on and off the Millersville campus. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. Faculty are expected, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article 4, to engage in professional responsibilities such as curriculum development and update; learning outcomes assessment for courses and programs; and participating in department, college, and university meetings and workshops.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Music Technology, Live Audio or Music Engineering.

Demonstrated ability to teach courses in music technology area including

Live Audio 1

Live Audio 2

one of the following:

Commercial Band

History of Recording Industry

Studio Recording

~ Songwriting

Ability to:

successfully integrate music technology into an academic curriculum. conduct classes through multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to-face classroom delivery and/or web enhanced or web-based formats.

Evidence of:

ability to teach diverse student populations.

a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Successful interview, teaching demonstration and three successful background checks: Act 34 (Criminal Record Check); Act 114 (FBI Federal Criminal History-Fingerprinting); and Act 151 (Child Abuse History Clearance).

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree (ABD with doctorate required by the date of appointment) or equivalent in Music Technology, Live Audio, Music Engineering or related field for appointment as an Assistant Professor.

Demonstrated ability to teach courses in the music technology area including computer applications in music production, synthesis & sampling, audio & music for video or a music business course

Minimum of 3 years of related full-time professional experience in the field of Live Audio.

Experience with advanced audio production software including the use of Pro Tools and Logic Pro.

Full-time or part-time professional experience in the field of Live Audio.

Evidence of scholarly activity or continued industry work in music technology.

Experience with NASM requirements related to undergraduate degrees with an emphasis in Music Industry.

Ability to teach studio lessons in one of the following areas- voice, percussion, guitar, keyboard and/or direct commercial bands.

Demonstrated ability to teach general education courses in music, which could include, but are not limited to Music Appreciation and Popular Music.
