Head, Music Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology Division
Appointment: September, 2013
Responsibilities: Provide administrative leadership and management for the School’s new Bachelor of Science in Music Business, Entrepreneurship, and Technology Division (MBET); coordinate and oversee all aspects of the program including recruiting, new student evaluations/auditions, curriculum, assessment, internships, special projects, and graduation requirements; continue to develop relations and initiatives with professionals, organizations, corporations, and foundations; teach undergraduate core MBET courses especially those in business. Teaching load may include other courses in the School of Music’s programs. Additional responsibilities include student advising and curricular and program development.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree desired; experience and proven success teaching at the college level; knowledge and experience in contemporary and traditional music business and practice including production, distribution, licensing, contract and entertainment law, and/or marketing issues; proven success in music business programmatic supervisory or administrative experience in music or music industry.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and rank.
The University of the Arts School of Music was founded in 1870 as the Philadelphia Musical Academy, and is located in the heart of center-city Philadelphia on the “Avenue of the Arts”. The School of Music is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The music program is distinguished by its emphasis on Jazz and contemporary American music idioms. In addition to the new MBET, the School offers a BM in Jazz Studies with majors in performance (instrumental or voice), and composition; an MM and a GD in Jazz Studies, an MAT in Music Education, an MM in Music Education; an undergraduate minors in MBET, Music Education, and Musical Theater. There are approximately 300 music majors, and 2,200 full-time students University-wide. The University of the Arts is a private institution offering 39 undergraduate and graduate degree programs through its College of Art, Media & Design, College of Performing Arts and Division of Liberal Arts. Schools within the colleges include: School of Art, School of Design, School of Film, School of Dance, Ira Brind School of Theater Arts, and the School of Music. The University of the Arts is the only University in the nation devoted exclusively to education and professional training in the performing, visual, and media arts.
