Daryl P. Friedman is Vice President,
Advocacy & Government Relations for the National Academy of
Recording Arts & Sciences. He has been with the Academy’s
Washington office since its inception in 1997. An arts and
government affairs professional for more than 20 years, Friedman
oversees the Academy’s policy and legislative programs, as well as the
"GRAMMYs on the Hill" initiatives, which includes a number of programs
to advance the rights of the music community through advocacy,
education and dialogue. Among the programs he developed to
achieve the initiative’s goals are Recording Arts Day on Capitol Hill
(an annual grassroots advocacy day in Washington), the GRAMMY Industry
Roundtable (a closed door discussion forum for top industry leaders and
policy makers), and GRAMMYs on the Hill (an event honoring legislators
who improve the environment for the music community). Before
joining the Academy, he directed external affairs for the Wolf Trap
National Park for the Performing Arts. He serves on the Board of
SoundExchange, and was named Executive of the Year (2000) by the
Washington Area Music Association. Friedman received his B.A. in
Economics of the Arts from the University of California (Santa Cruz)
and his M.A. in Arts Management from the American University in
Washington, D.C.
