The Department of Arts & Entertainment Enterprise of Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts and Design seeks candidates for a full time faculty appointment in its Bachelor of Science in Music Industry Program to teach courses in a variety of areas in the music business (e.g., recording industry, publishing industry, artist management, new media, marketing, or social networking) and, as Assistant Program Director, will team with the Program Director to handle program administration. Depending on the successful candidate's qualifications, the appointment may be either a tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level, or a contract position as Assistant Teaching Professor.
Substantial music industry experience and the ability to teach courses in a variety of areas in the music business (e.g., recording industry, publishing industry, artist management, new media, marketing, or social networking).
M.B.A. or Masters Degree in a related discipline required.
Demonstrated evidence of the following: depth and breadth of working knowledge of the current music industry both domestic and worldwide; direct experience with new media, digital technology and/or telecommunications industry; knowledge of music industry legal policy, the live-music industry, recorded music, music publishing; connections in the music industry useful to our co-op program.
Prior teaching experience in higher education required.
Ability to administer/manage an academic program strongly desired.
Teach undergraduate courses in Music Industry business.
Mentor students in their Senior Projects, which are capstone projects encompassing a nine-month span from planning to completion.
Serve as Assistant Program Director of the Music Industry Program.
Continue to develop music industry professional connections useful for the Music Industry Program.
Maintain involvement in appropriate professional organizations and a continued professional
The Music Industry program offers comprehensive instruction and learning experiences in both the technology and business components of the music industry. The program at Drexel University offers students real-world experience by integrating a practicum-based learning model through the operation of MAD Dragon Music Group, comprised of several music business enterprises both inside and outside of the classroom. This highly competitive program is also enhanced by Drexel's Co-operative Education system that provides experiential learning with industry partners during sophomore and junior years. The Music Industry Program includes a rigorous course of academic study and awards a Bachelor of Science degree.
