MEISA NEWS - BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS
WITH MEISA
by Bosa Mora, MEISA National
President
MEISA students are working to
build relationships in the music industry to strengthen their
professional network. Here
are some updates from a few of our chapters.
NYU
The students at NYU are promoting their Northeast
Regional Conference as well as raising support for the various
students
in MEISA who will be going to the CMJ festival. Last month,
the NYU chapter of MEISA held a battle of the bands co-sponsored
with CMJ. A panel of judges crowned the winner of the event
and they were able to award the winning band a showcase in
the CMJ festival.
In addition, NYU is holding photography and journalism contests
open to students with the winners to be showcased on the CMJ
website and marketed in CMJ materials during the festival.
Berklee College of Music
Students at Berklee just came back
from a visit to Los Angeles. They went to see
music industry companies and
talk with executives about current issues in the industry.
They met with companies such as Warner Music, Top Spin, and
Bug Music Publishing. On November 6th and 7th, Berklee students
will be making another trip to New York for a similar purpose.
They will be visiting companies such as Universal, WEA, SEASAC,
and others. They will also be attending the Northeast Regional
Conference at NYU.
MEISA Executive Board
The MEISA Executive Board is working
to facilitate relationships among MEISA chapters and bring
new ideas to the table. At
the MEIEA fall meeting, ideas such as partnerships and sponsorships
were addressed and a new T-Shirt Design Contest was approved.
The idea of the contest is for students to design a t-shirt
at their own discretion and creatively approach the promotion
of MEISA through
the shirts. They will be required to use the MEISA logo and
the winning design will be given out to MEISA members at
the MEIEA 2009 national conference. Also the MEISA executive
board
is working on contests and awards for chapters such as: scholarships,
service month,
and Chapter of the Year. All efforts are going toward building
relationships and communications models as well as preparing
for the national MEIEA conference this spring.
