MEISA NEWS - MAKING MOTION WITH MEISA
by
Nikki Nadeau

MEISA students across the nation have been engaging in events to help benefit their careers after graduation. Here are some updates from just a few of our active chapters:

University of Miami

The students of this chapter have started a new partnership with Miami Unsigned. The newly formed organization works to host and promote live shows in that Miami community. The MEISA members of the University of Miami will not only be helping the non-profit organization by volunteering to work at various concerts, but they will also be gaining valuable skills in venue operations.

Butler University

The MEISA members in Indianapolis, IN are working hard to plan for the Mid-West Regional Conference. Their plans include hosting panels about careers in entertainment law, the concert business, and the impact of prosumer recording equipment. The conference will be complete with a lunch, mingling session, and night entertainment including three local bands from the area.

University of New Haven

The chapter in New Haven, CT has been working hard to plan and run their MEISA Monday concert series. The series encourages students on campus to attend the concerts and expand their musical tastes. Each concert includes food, decorations, artists related to a different genre from blues to country to metal. MEISA of New Haven also recently attend the 123rd Annual Audio Engineering Society Convention and will be seeing the Brit Rock Showcase as part of the CMJ Music Festival in New York City.

National Board

While chapters across the country have been planning some great events, the Executive Board have been brewing up some new ideas to propose at the Fall MEIEA meeting in November as well. Our plans should help to get MEISA more recognized nationally by creating bigger waves through promotion and creating one large event through the teamwork of all of the MEISA chapters together.

Until MEIEA reaches their verdict, the National MEISA board will be working to add a new “Internship Review” section to Internship Central on our forum, improve our webpage, and work towards better communication with our regional representatives and our chapters.

So if you are excited as to what some of our chapters have to offer this year, try and check out one of our Regional Conferences at UMass Lowell, Butler University, and Georgia State University.
