FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK

Welcome
to the first issue of the MEIEA Ezine for the 2006-2007 school
year! We have many wonderful articles this time around, some
by new faculty and student contributors.
Like everyone else, I have been staying
quite busy this semester with teaching classes, taking classes,
playing, recording clients and adjusting to the demands of
teaching at a new institution. However, it always seems like
the amount of administration that sometimes piles up tries
to take me away from my initial love of teaching and the business
itself.
I hope that all of us as educators
never lose sight of keeping one foot in the professional arena
and one in academia. This is so important to our students,
especially as our field is one which is changing daily. In
my experience, music business institutions that can stay ahead
of the curve and anticipate industry changes are the most
effective. We must constantly be conversing with adjuncts
and industry professionals, as well as students, to find ways
to improve our programs.
That is why I am excited about the
upcoming NARAS®/MEIEA® Summit. It is one way for us
to find out what the industry itself saying about music industry
education and what changes we should be preparing for.
I encourage many of you to reflect
on how your program addresses input (students), processing
(teaching),output (employable graduates) and feedback from
graduates within the external environment to create an effective
revolving educational model.
Thank you for all your contributions to MEIEA, I am looking
forward to the summit! I welcome your comments, suggestions,
and ideas!
